Q & A

When is class?

Class is every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.  Classes are held at 9:45 and 11:00.  Sign up for the Kids Class email list to receive email reminders of class dates!

Hold up, Bryant Lake Bowl?

Cool, right?!  Class is held in the theater located inside of Bryant Lake Bowl.  They’re super nice there and have great pancakes.

My child has never taken a dance class before / hasn’t expressed interest in dance / isn’t all that coordinated…?

At Kids Class, we care about 3 things:

  1. Trying your best
  2. Having an awesome time
  3. Learning dances to spontaneously bust out at family events (and building the confidence we need to do so)

Kids Class is designed to help improve skills such as listening, memorization, imitation, and focus.  Class will also help children build a sense of physical awareness that will come in handy for many activities.  Children also get the opportunity to perform in front of people in a supportive environment (See: How can I see what you’re working on in class?)

Bonus: Class is designed so that you can start at any time and be able to pick up the techniques we use… missing a class (or 10) isn’t a big deal.

Do I have to sign up in advance?

You are strongly encouraged to sign up online in advance for class.  Spots will only be held for dancers who have registered and paid online.  Walk ins are welcome with a cash payment, but spots are not guaranteed.

How much does it cost?

Class is only

(drummmmm rolllllllllllllll)

Well, $5.50 if you’re registering online (see follow up question)

I want class to be accessible to everyone!  If you’re registering online, payment is done via PayPal.  If you’re coming as a walk-up, please bring $5 in cash.

Why is it $5.50 online?

PayPal is a stinker and charges me fees.  Your extra .50 helps balance this out.  If paying the extra .50 in order to have your spot saved is a deal breaker for your family, please email Miss Torrie directly and we will work something out!

Why are doors 15 minutes before class?

I love for dancers to arrive early so they can adjust to the room, especially if it’s their first time attending.  During this time we do a craft project that ties in with our dances for the day!

What do I do while my child is dancing?

Relax!  Bryant Lake Bowl has an awesome breakfast menu.  In order for dancers to really get into their dance zone, I kindly ask that parents refrain from hanging out in the theater during class**.  Adults are also asked to stay in the building during class.  So basically go eat breakfast without your kids around.

**Adults may be asked to stay in the theater if their dancer is: 1) under the age of 3. 2) crying or showing other signs of distress. 3) misbehaving.  Even with an adult present, if a dancer is acting in a way that is distracting or taking away from the quality of class, they may be asked to leave the theater.

At what age can my child start coming to class?

This is a bit hard to give a general answer to. If you have a child under 2 1/2, my usual response is not yet. Even if your little one loves to dance, children attending class need to be able to execute directions and focus on the task at hand.  In order for class to flow smoothly and for everyone to stay safe, children under 5 are asked to attend the 9:45 class.

I have a 3 year old and a 7 year old who want to attend together.  What class should we attend?

Though children under 5 are encouraged to attend the 9:45 class, exceptions are made in the case of siblings.  As long as the older sibling is willing to help out their little dude/dudette, usually the 11:00 is a good fit.

How can I see what you’re working on in class?

Each 40 minute class is followed up by a performance!  Also, check out the Kids Class Spotify Playlist. It will be updated before each class with the music we will be dancing to.

Do we have to wear anything in particular?

Dancers can wear whatever they feel like as long as they can move in it and be safe!  Make sure dancers are set up for success by putting them in footwear they can be active in.

What happens if I registered online but now can’t attend?

If you let me know 48 hours before class, I’ll work out a credit for a future class. If it’s less then 48 hours before class, a credit will not be given. No shows will not receive credit and may lose the ability to preregister.

Miss Torrie, what is that stuff all over your arms?

Those are stamps.  I’m such a good listener that they never wash off.

Miss Torrie, who is your best friend?

Casper.  You can find him behind the bar washing dishes after class.  If you’re really nice to him, he’ll give you a lollipop.
